There is a painting on the wall,
just inside the door of a memory.
We walk right past it several times a day.
Do we see it as it is
or how it responds to us?
Do we even see it at all?
Do we look into it
or do we look right through it?
Does it see into us?
We change selves daily,
even more than our clothes.
Which one of us is real?
Who are we
when no mirror can reflect us?
What we are searching for
is often in plain sight,
but we have to go on a quest to find it.
Roots and meaning.
Our eyes didn’t know where to look.
© Jamie MillardWhat lives in plain sight in our lives that we’ve looked at thousands of times yet we really don’t see? A mirror. A wall. A picture. Eyes. A purpose. A face.
Sometimes we don’t see what it fully reveals until it has fallen or broken.
We had never looked into it. We had only looked at it. Did we ever see it all?
What hides inside of a painting? Underneath the layers and shades of colour. Framed in to cover over top of its frayed edges. Do we only ever see one side of things? Is there another picture on the back? Another language?
We are made of stories not skin. Stories need a witness to give things a shape. What hides underneath our skin just waiting for a witness?
Did we ever really know where to look?
Thanks for Being - Here. This summer has met me with a quiet calmness and more the seat of witness. More reading. Less writing. Some deeper breathing - into - sight, insight, vision. Believing is seeing. Looking into- all sides.
Lots of Love,
Jamie

Hi Jamie,
"We are made of stories not skin." This stands out for me, it made me smile — we, the sum of all versions of self, and still we unfold — fallen, broken, realised, ignored, witnessed, hidden, unknown — imagined; created. Love how you capture the essence of our human condition.
Lovely to listen to you reading again, in your quiet calmness of Summer nurturing your being — asking and living the questions.
"Did we ever really know where to look?" Probably not when we look through a lens that is skin deep?
Enjoy the rest of your season Jamie. 🙏🌀💖
Poet and person, the artist in the picture, the man in the words in his summer, a window open. Good to read! Ann grows plants in our window, some very old friends. I do a spinal recovery two minutes, back of the breakfast chair looking with the plants in the window. They seem to like that. And the outside looks in, a bit overgrown in its enthusiasm, but that is 'entheos' for you! My notebook was lying on the table this morning to pick up the thread from you!
