The more I get to know people, the more I love my dog.
Mark Twain
I write to reflect and I write to inquire. Poetry as imagery, intuition, and imagination is where my interior world meets my exterior worldly experiences best. Poetry is my companion on a spiritual journey of becoming and of being. Poetry allows me to live into the questions in cuoreosity. Poetry meets me where I am with empathy and understanding. For me poems forgive, heal, teach, and guide.
This poem Curmudgeon met me as a frustrated human. This is different from my usual writing dips into the spaces of transcendence and found me very bewildered and bemoaning of the brutishness of a few local energy vampires. We all need to vent sometimes. Poetry gave me a way to reflect, and to play while at the same time raising my own energy on the way to learning how to let things pass through me. Please enjoy this short syllable satirical soliloquy seeking serenity for self.
Curmudgeon
A notion to ponder
A mood or a tone
A bounty of suffer
That some seem to own
Always a problem
is lurking and near
Grumpy and angry
and absent of cheer
With plenty of blame
Bold finger pointing
Emotions ruffled
The drama anointing
Huge grudges carried
That time won’t retrieve
Always a victim
A wrong to be grieved
Trouble is mounting
Reality muddled
Cognitive dissonance
Judgement all scuttled
Happiness pirate
Serenity thief
They will steal your smile
Replace it with grief
Give them wide passage
Your empathy vain
Advice falls on deaf ears
For they cannot change
Their world is dreary
A colourless stage
Void of contentment
They’ve built their own cage

Lots of Love,
Jamie
I understand this poem and the thoughts behind it. Well expressed and well understood. It is true that people are different, but some are very different. Truly troubled persons. Unhappy because they are chasing and striving. It always ends badly.
I see a connection between a troubled spirit and a disconnection from Nature. Arya my cockatiel is my at home connection, as are the birds and squirrels outside my door. Once you see, find and feel that connection, you apprehend that we humans have a chance of redemption and connection.
Beautifully written! It is a practice to stay focused on the positive when our brains are so negatively biased. I practice to see people who are constantly negative through the eyes of Love. When in direct interaction I try to focus on their essence and in my mind try to understand their pain (as normally the root of the negativity is pain in some form). This helps me keeping my energy, as I don't go down the scale when I am able to hold them in Love. It is a practice though and I am far from perfect. I have discovered though, that the negative people more and more seem to naturally drift out of my experience. Where the focus goes the energy flows. Wonderful article, Jamie.
